We photograph the problem before we touch anything.

Every inspection comes back to your phone as pictures of your own car, with a price next to each item and a note saying which ones can wait. You decide what we do. Nothing gets started without your say-so.

You shouldn't have to take our word for it.

78% of drivers say they don't always trust their mechanic, and we get it. You can't see what we see. So we stopped explaining and started sending photos. Here's a real report from last Tuesday, with the customer's name taken off.

Front brake pads at 2mm

You've got maybe 1,500 miles left before they're into the rotors, and rotors triple the cost. The photo is your driver's side. That ridge is the wear indicator.

Serpentine belt is cracking

Not urgent. It'll go another year in normal driving. We'd rather you knew now than found out on I-475 in February. Flag it at your next oil change.

$165whenever you're ready
Battery terminals in good condition
Nothing needed

Battery tested fine, 612 CCA

It's four years old, which is when people start getting talked into replacing them. Yours is holding. We'll test it again in the spring.

Sent to the customer's phone at 3:19pm. They approved the brakes, declined the belt. That's allowed. It's your car.
What things cost

Prices on the website, like a restaurant menu.

Most shops make you call for this. We've never understood why. You're going to find out eventually, and making you work for it just starts the relationship badly.

Ranges are real ranges. A CR-V and an F-250 aren't the same job. If your car lands outside the range we'll call you before we do anything, and you can say no.

Triage

The dealership fixes everything at once. We don't.

Every inspection sorts into three piles. Most of what we find lands in the second or third, and plenty of people drive off having spent nothing.

Pile one

Fix it now

Safety, or it's about to cost you a lot more. This is the only pile we'll push you on.

  • Brakes into the wear indicator
  • Tires below 3/32"
  • Any steering or suspension play
  • Coolant or oil actively leaking
Pile two

This year, not this week

Real, but you can plan around it. Put it in your calendar and your budget.

  • Belts with surface cracking
  • Battery over five years old
  • Fluids past interval but clean
  • Slow-weeping gaskets
Pile three

We're just telling you

Noted so nobody can claim later that we hid it. No action, no pressure, no invoice line.

  • Cosmetic corrosion
  • Slightly uneven tire wear
  • Cabin filter getting dusty
  • Wipers you'll want by fall

Three we didn't cherry-pick.

"Took it in expecting a $900 transmission conversation because that's what the other place told me. Ray found a bad speed sensor. Ninety dollars. He showed me the part and everything."
Denise W. · Sylvania · 2021 Equinox
★★★★★
"I'm a woman who knows nothing about cars and I've been condescended to in every shop in this town. These guys sent me photos and explained what a wheel bearing does without making me feel stupid. That's the whole review."
Amara J. · Toledo · 2017 Civic
★★★★☆
"Good work, fair price, but they had my truck two days longer than they said because a part came in wrong. They did call me both days to explain, which is more than most. Still using them."

Tell us what it's doing.

Five questions. We'll text you back with a time, usually within the hour during shop hours and first thing if you send it overnight.

Nothing starts without approval. You'll see photos and a price first. We'll say when it's nothing. About a third of check-engine lights are a loose gas cap or a sensor. Diagnostics aren't free. Tracing a fault properly takes an hour or more, but it's waived if we do the repair.

We text once with a time. No marketing, ever.

Got it.

This is a demo form, so nothing was actually sent. On a live site this would hit the shop's phone and inbox straight away.

Where we are

One shop, on Airport Highway, since 1998.

We've never opened a second location and we're not going to. One building means the person who looked at your car in March is still here in November, and remembers it.

Loaner cars are free for anything over a day. Ask when you book. There are four of them and they go quickly.

Asked all the time

The ones we answer every week.

Will using you void my factory warranty?
No. Federal law, the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, means a manufacturer can't void your warranty just because an independent shop did the maintenance. We log everything with parts numbers and dates so you've got the paper trail if it's ever questioned. Bring us the schedule and we'll follow it exactly.
Why do you charge for a diagnostic when the parts store does it free?
Because they're doing a different thing. A parts store reads the code off your computer, which tells you the circuit that's unhappy, not what's wrong. A P0420 might be a bad catalytic converter or an $80 oxygen sensor, and the code can't tell you which. The hour we spend tracing it is the difference between fixing your car and selling you a part.
Can I bring my own parts?
Yes, with one condition: we can't warranty the part, only our labor. If the part fails in six months you'll pay us to do the job again. For most people that works out worse than just letting us supply it, but it's your call and we won't give you a hard time about it.
How long will you have my car?
Brakes and routine service are usually same-day if you're in before 10am. Diagnostics depend on what we find. Anything needing a part we don't stock adds a day, sometimes two if it's a dealer-only item. We'll tell you the honest estimate when we call with the inspection, not a hopeful one.
I got a quote elsewhere. Will you look at it?
Happily, and we won't automatically tell you it's wrong. Sometimes another shop's quote is fair and we'll say so. If we think something on it isn't needed we'll show you the part on your car and let you decide. Second opinions are free here.
Do you work on European cars?
BMW, Volkswagen, Audi and Volvo, yes. Mercedes and Porsche we'll do routine service on but we'll send you to a specialist for anything deep. We'd rather turn away work than learn on your car. Anything electric, we do tires, brakes and suspension only.

Get the photos first. Then decide.

Book a slot and see what your car actually needs, including quite often nothing.
